Lish, Hemingway, Bimini, Esquire

Curious about an excerpt from Gordon Lish and His Influence on 20th Century American Literature?

See the Fall 2009 issue of The Hemingway Review and the research note regarding the October, 1970 issue of Esquire and the bumping heads Lish had with Mary Hemingway over the cover (she thought her former husband looked awful with green teeth) and the introductory note to the ISLANDS IN THE STREAM partial, where she feels facts were wrong.

Regardless, Gordon and Barbara Lish remained good friends with Mary Hemingway, would have the couple over dor dinner, and Lish would work with Mary on articles for Esquire and excerpts from her memoir about being married to Papa Hem.

A side note…that Esquire also contains LOST CHAPTERS FROM TROUT FISHING IN AMERICA, which Lish was giddy to run.
